Testing High-energy Emission Models for Blazars with X-Ray Polarimetry

چکیده

Abstract Both leptonic and hadronic emission processes may contribute to blazar jet emission; which dominates in blazars’ high-energy component remains an open question. Some intermediate synchrotron peaked blazars transition from their low- components the X-ray band making them excellent laboratories probe both simultaneously, good targets for newly launched Imaging Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE). We characterize spectral energy distributions three such blazars, CGRaBS J0211+1051, TXS 0506+056, S5 0716+714, predicting polarization behavior by fitting a multizone polarized model. find that significant detection of electron dominated is possible with 300 ks observation 0716+714 J0211+1051 flaring states, while even 500 observations are unlikely measure self-Compton (SSC) polarization. Importantly, nonleptonic like proton marginally detectable our brightest (ISP), during state. Improved IXPE data reduction methods or next-generation telescopes eXTP needed confidently SSC

X–ray Emission in Gamma-ray Blazars

As shown by Maraschi (this volume) the overall spectral energy distribution (SED) of the blazars detected by EGRET shows two peaks, in a ν–νF (ν) plot. With few exceptions, the minimum between these two peaks occurs in the X–ray range. We can exploit this observational fact to constrain the models proposed to account for the SED of blazars, and to reach an important conclusion: the conversion o...

High Energy Gamma-ray Emission from Blazars: Egret Observations

We will present a summary of the observations of blazars by the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). EGRET has detected high energy γray emission at energies greater than 100 MeV from more that 50 blazars. These sources show inferred isotropic luminosities as large as 3× 10 ergs s. One of the most remarkable characteristics of the EGRET o...

Testing the blazar spectral sequence: X–ray selected blazars

We present simultaneous optical and X–ray data from Swift for a sample of radio–loud flat spectrum quasars selected from the Einstein Medium Sensitivity Survey (EMSS). We present also a complete analysis of Swift and INTEGRAL data on 4 blazars recently discussed as possibly challenging the trends of the hypothesised “blazar spectral sequence”. The SEDs of all these objects are modelled in terms...

Future Prospects for High Energy Polarimetry of Gammaâ•’Ray Bursts

The recent detection of linear polarization from GRB120206 has piqued the interest of the community in this relatively unexplored avenue of research. Here, we review the current status and prospects for GRB polarimetry at hard X-ray and soft γ-ray energies. After reviewing the most recent results, we present a brief survey of current and planned experiments that are capable of making GRB polari...

Intrinsic Constraints on Very High Energy Emission in Gamma-ray Loud Blazars

Photons with very high energy up to TeV (VHE) emitted from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) provide some invaluable information of the origin of γ-ray emission. Although 66 blazars have been detected by EGRET, only three low redshift X-ray selected BL Lacs (Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and 1ES 2344+514) are conclusive TeV emitters (PKS 2155-304 is a potential TeV emitter) since VHE photons may be absorbed by...
